On January 31, 2020, Health and Human Services Secretary Alex M. Azar II declared a public health emergency (PHE) for the United States to aid the nation’s healthcare community in responding to COVID-19.”
Common indications of infection include respiratory symptoms, cough, fever, shortness of breath, and breathing difficulties. Recommendations by the World Health Organization (WHO) to prevent infection include hand washing, covering the mouth and nose when coughing and sneezing, and thoroughly cooking meat and eggs. Avoiding close contact with anyone showing symptoms such as coughing and sneezing is also recommended.
COVID-19 is thought to mainly be spread by person-to-person contact (within 6 feet) or contact with respiratory droplets produced when a person coughs or sneezes. While it is not clear yet how COVID-19 is predominantly being spread, evidence suggests that many viruses can be transmitted through hard surfaces with the virus on them.
